Sponsored by Scottish Power Renewables and held exclusively within the UK’s largest onshore wind farm, ScottishPower Renewables’ Whitelee Wind Farm, RTB has grown to become one of the largest trail-running events in the UK. Back for its ninth year it takes place from Friday 19th July through to Sunday 21st July and incorporates three distances for adults; a testing10k run, a challenging half marathon, a gruelling 50k ultramarathon and the most competitive 1 mile Junior Run the Blades.
Realise Energy Business Development Manager and keen runner, Tim Blackmore, is delighted to be supporting the event “I will be running the half marathon, as part of my training programme for the two ultra-marathons planned for 2025” he explains. The event makes trail running accessible to runners of all fitness and experience levels, in a unique setting, I know I will be huffing and puffing so the turbines will be turning……
Joe Mitchell, SPR’s Head of Operations and Maintenance, said: “We’re really proud to be hosting Run the Blades – a hugely successful annual event – for the 9th year. Whitelee Windfarm is the largest in the UK and, as well as generating enough green energy to power the equivalent of 350,000 homes, it offers a much-loved green space for everyone. This is no normal road run or trail run. You’ll be running amongst the turbines with stunning views across the landscape – a truly unique setting”
Lee Peyton, Founder of Breaking Strain, which runs the event, said: “Run the Blades has grown year-on-year following the pandemic. We weren’t sure how it would bounce back, but thanks to our sponsors Scottish Power Renewables and the huge numbers of runners that take part, we are back, and we are bigger and better than ever.
